Scaffolding for chimney work

A chimney is a workplace at height. A ladder against the stack is not a workplace.

Stack-only versus a roof scaffold

If the rest of the roof is staying on and the work is the stack — pots, flaunching, repointing — a designed access to that chimney can be enough. If the covering is coming off, or the stack sits behind a parapet that cannot be reached, you are into a roof scaffold. We will not sell you the smaller job if it is the wrong one.

Fans and the pavement

Anything that can drop onto a street needs a fan or a full public-protection lift. High Streets in Billericay, Chelmsford and Colchester fail this test more often than a back garden in Wickford.

Quick answers

Can you scaffold a chimney on a three-storey terrace?

Yes, with the right design and usually a licence if we take highway. That is a survey, not a yes from a photo of the pot.
